JSU Housing Goes One Day Without Shoes

On April 8, 2010, the Department of University Housing and Residence Life went without shoes for one day in support of TOMS Shoes, "One Day Without Shoes" event. The event, which was sponsored by the Office of Student Life, began with a rally and then a barefoot walk around campus. This was a great way of raising awareness for those who experience life, daily, without shoes.

According to the One Day Without Shoes website,

  • In some developing nations, children must walk for miles to school, clean water and to seek medical help.
  • Cuts and sores on feet can lead to serious infection.
  • Often, children cannot attend school barefoot.
  • In Ethiopia, approximately one million people are suffering from Podoconiosis, a debilitating and disfiguring disease caused by walking barefoot in volcanic soil.
  • Podoconiosis is 100% preventable with basic foot hygiene and wearing shoes.

TOMS Shoes states that with every pair of shoes purchased, one pair will be given to a child in need. For more information please visit, www.toms.com
